A High Tea fit for a Princess

By: explorer team, ellaslist

ellaslist was lucky enough to attend The Langham, Sydney’s first children’s high tea for 2015 – The Barbie Princess High Tea – a hugely impressive Barbie-themed morning of entertainment and activities, held on the first Saturday of the Easter school holidays.

The hotel’s thirty million dollar refurbishment, completed late last year, is nothing short of spectacular!

Perfect for little (and big) Princesses

We were greeted like royalty, posing dutifully on the ‘pink carpet’ (to the embarrassment of our 6 and 9 year old daughters) before being ushered through to our table in the dining area. No detail had been spared despite the high tea being tailored for young children. The tables were laid with the finest linen, china, and silverware, and we were promptly served tea and hot chocolate, followed by a glass of sparkling (and another…no complaints here!).

Our girls kept an eye on the giant show-reel of Barbie-themed footage, and were so excited to be pampered with a special manicure at the mini nail bar. A craft table had been set up with a huge variety of decorations – glitter, sequins, curling ribbon, stickers, and more – for adorning paper masks. So much fun!

….and the food!

We were treated to a selection of sweet and savoury goodies, including soft, fluffy scones served with cream and jam, mini burgers, quiche, a variety of sandwiches, cakes and biscuits and sweet treats as far as the eye could see. (The highlight was a sliver of opera cake with a biscuity base).

Wow! What an amazing take-home gift

To top it off, each of our young friends departed with her own brand new Barbie in a box….packed in an impressive stiff paper carry bag with cloth handles in The Langham’s signature dusty pink (just saying).

What’s the cost?

At $65 and $70 (children and adults tickets respectively), this experience isn’t cheap. But given the volume and quality of food and beverages presented, the standard of the activities included, the impeccable waitstaff, and the take-home gift, overall it’s terrific value and makes for an extremely special morning out with your little lady.

Take a side-trip

Having paid just over $10 for 4hrs parking outside the door, my daughter and I decided to make the most of our time by walking up the steps across the road to the glorious Sydney Observatory and spent another hour or so wandering through the museum, watching a 3D movie, and taking a guided tour.

Did the kids like it?

“I loved it. The weather was terrible so it was good to be inside. My favourite part was getting my nails done, and eating the rainbow-coloured macarons!”
Layla, 9yo.
